There has never been a better time to take advantage of the current funding available to upgrade the energy performance of your home for loft and cavity wall insulation, condensing gas boilers, central heating installations or renewable energy systems
Free Home Insulation
Free and funded home insulation
Access 100% Free and funded loft and cavity wall Insulation for the home
Apply now whilst funds are available – All areas of the UK
The UK Government, with financial support from the energy supply companies, is actively promoting and funding loft and cavity wall insulation for domestic homes and all households qualify for financial support of typically 70% - 100% of the installed costs depending on the personal circumstances of the householder. All sites qualify for a free, without obligation, site energy survey from a trained surveyor to assess the scope, savings and costs to the householder (if any)
Approximately 30% of UK energy is used in the home and heating accounts for approx. 70% of this energy use. 20% to 50% of this heating energy usage can be saved by better loft and cavity wall insulation. The minimum grant available is typically 60% - 70% of the installed cost but householders receiving Government assistance may well qualify for a full 100% grant
The householders that are likely to get 100% funding for loft and cavity wall insulation include the over 70s or those receiving income support, jobseekers allowance, invalidity benefit or many other allowances
To ensure quality standards the CRC group has negotiated agreements with the major UK highly experienced and accredited installers of loft and cavity wall insulation who are installing 1000s of contracts each week
In addition we have an on-going training programme for surveyors which is offering a really good career opportunity for those individuals that want to get into energy conservation as a career in a growing area of required expertise either as an area manager to look after a team or as a surveyor
Energy Performance of Buildings
Energy performance certificates - EPCs
Display energy certificates - DECs
All domestic properties that are offered for sale and apartments for rent now need an EPC - energy performance certificate under the NHER national home energy rating scheme so that any prospective purchaser or tenant can understand the energy performance of the property. As similar scheme exists for commercial properties for sale or rent.
In addition to the above all public buildings over 1000m² require a similar DEC - display energy certificate and UK legislation for new build domestic and commercial buildings require other performance criteria assessing by accredited surveyors
We at CRC with our affiliated companies can provide the required expertise to assess the energy performance of existing or planned buildings in the domestic and commercial areas for architects, builders, housing associations, developers or homeowners - which is now required due to various areas of Government legislation. This is performed for recognised professional fees - NHER (national home energy rating) is the UK's largest energy rating scheme and part of the home information packs for sellers - SAP (standard assessment procedure) rating reflects the notional cost/m² of providing energy for heating and domestic hot water in a dwelling - DECs (display energy certificates) are a requirement for all public buildings of over 1000m² from October 2008 and will need to be updated each year to verify improved performance - BREEAM (building research establishment environmental assessment method) assesses the total performance and carbon footprint of any type of existing or new building - Air leakage testing, also known as pressure testing, air permeability testing and air tightness testing of residential buildings is part of the building regulations April 2006 part L1A and stipulates that all new dwellings must demonstrate they are airtight to an agreed standard
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy systems for the home
There are now many viable areas of potential for renewable energy systems for domestic properties with a variety of pay back criteria. The payback varies from typically 4 years to 10 years. Homeowners will usually consider long paybacks for environmentally friendly systems as their commitment to environmental control
Renewable energy systems and solutions are currently provided from CRC and our affiliated companies
The recognised practical application areas are:
Solar panels for hot water - modern solar panels can provide typically 70% of annual hot water requirements and do not require bright sunshine - only sunlight. Typical payback is 6 - 10 years
Solar panels PV for electricity - modern PV systems can supplement typically 10% - 20% of annual electricity and do not require bright sunshine - only sunlight. With the new ‘feed-in’ tariffs from early 2010 which can pay 50 pence per kWh for green electricity fed to the grid generated from PV systems the financial viability and payback are very attractive, Typical payback is now 5 - 10 years
Wind energy - small wind turbines rely on availability of regular wind - may operate 50% of the time day or night and can supply 30% or more of the annual electricity requirements to a domestic dwelling. Typical payback is 8-10 years
Heat pumps - use outside air or ground regular temperatures to provide hot water or hot air for home heating and/or hot water all year round. Requires 1kW of electrical energy to produce 3.5kW of heat energy. Comparable running costs with gas fired systems and particularly useful where the are no gas supplies. Typical payback is 6-10 years
Woodchip and biofuel heaters/boilers - use waste wood and other biofuels to supplement or entirely replace home central heating and hot water systems. Rely on regular supply of suitable fuel. Typical payback is 4-8 years
